UX: Student Currency
While simple in theory, declining balances in higher education are inherently convoluted. To tackle this user experience issue, I thought, "What else revolves around money and confusion? TAXES!" I began analyzing popular tax programs and their methods of explaining complex ideas and processes.
Break it down. Step by step.
I made the introductory screen (pre-authentication) explain the basic transaction process in 3 steps. After a user's first experience, they tend to bypass the introductory screens and proceed directly to their destination, so I placed the primary call-to-action near the top of the page.
Student meal plans can be whittled down to three separate declining balances. For the user interface, I emulated popular point-of-sale applications, so users would have an immediate sense of familiarity.
